Have You Lost Your Enthusiasm For Making Money Online?
Have You Lost Your Enthusiasm For Making Money Online?
How many times have you gotten all enthused about an affiliate project? Then before long you started losing all of that enthusiasm. That can happen easily in this internet marketing business online that we are in.
This happened to me recently. The team I work with started a new project and set a deadline to try to get everyone to keep the pace up. I got really into things and then everything started going wrong.
My web page building software and I were not getting along too well. Everything I was trying to do was not turning out the way I wanted it to – format problems. I don’t know too much about HTML so I couldn’t figure it out.
I finally left the format alone so that I could move forward with the project. Otherwise, I would have gotten bogged down and the task would never have been finished. Someday I need to figure out how my web page building program does formatting.
You have to find a way to stay focused on the task at hand. In this case a few extra spaces in my finished web page were not worth the continued expenditure of time. It was becoming a distraction.
Another thing that can become a distraction to your attempt to grow your affiliate internet business online is information overload. Do you have too many irons in the fire?
Figure out which tasks have priority and focus on those. You will find that persistence on those tasks will be essential to your success.
That is true in nearly all walks of life and it is especially true in your attempts to make money online.
Determine what needs to be done and the process that is necessary to accomplish it and then persist until you get it accomplish. Just hang in there.
Many want to be involved in making money online with an affiliate internet business, yet are not committed to following through with the necessary work, time, or involvement that is required.
Webster’s dictionary defines persevere as “to continue a course of action, etc. in spite of difficulty, opposition, etc.” Other terms that might be used are counterinfluences and discouragement.
Is information overload a counterinfluence to your efforts to figure out and plan the steps that are necessary to getting your online business going?
Find a good resource or mentor and stick with it, persist, until your know the path. Then go down that path. (You know, all the time I am finding out that work is involved in this business.)
What distraction stand in your way? Can you eliminate them?
Don’t let distractions, some new and greatest thing, cause you to lose focus. If you can’t use it or afford it, move on and accomplish what your plan calls for you to accomplish.
Distractions will threaten your time as well as your determination to stay the course and complete the tasks that are required.
Also, don’t let a lack of confidence keep you from completing an important task. Keep after it. Ask someone for help if necessary.
Being persistent is the key factor in completing the tasks that are necessary in order to be successful at making money online. If you want your affiliate internet business online to succeed, then persevere until the necessary tasks are done.

Very good advice Lonnie!
It is very easy to get distracted online and we must learn how to stay focused and push through the slow/tedious times.
I often find myself getting “lost” online and find out an hour later that I was suppose to be working on a certain project.
One tip to stay focused is to use a kitchen timer and set it by your computer in 30min-60min intervals. Focus on one thing only until the alarm goes off.

You mean you haven’t found the bid red easy button yet?
Just kidding and great advice about just getting it done. Perfectionism can keep you from accomplishing anything because nothing is ever perfect and as one of my favorite comics says “Gi R Done”.

I must say Lonnie I resemble that remark. I sometimes feel just like that and not quite gotten it down yet to move on to another part of the project. This is great advice that maybe I need to take myself.
Fantastic post Lonnie!
The information you have provided here is so, so true. I honestly find myself having problems with focusing on getting things done. I definitely helps having to be accountable to someone.
That’s the main reason I started my new case study series on my blog. It forces me to take the steps necessary to complete the project.
I have been persistent for nearly two years now and it is finally starting to pay off. As long as you don’t give up and you learn from your mistakes you will get to where you want to be.
So many people come into this expecting to start making money overnight without putting in any effort (read work) and when it doesn’t happen in a week or two they give up.
All I can say is DON’T give up!

I have had that feeling many times. It is a roller coaster, ups and downs. But like you mention perseverance pays off. See the small improvements week after week….

You’ve hit the nail on the head with this one, Lonnie! Of all the marketers I’ve mentored over the years, both online and offline, two things have separated those who went on to greatness from those who failed – focus and perseverance.
There is an old quote that says ‘Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goals’. Staying focused on your goals, and the importance of achieving them, can help you persevere through the toughest times when those around you are giving up.
You yourself are on the right path – stick with it and you’ll get there!

Focus is difficult, and there are so many new ideas and new “hot” products being pitched all the time. I think the best thing to do is to cut off about 80-90% of the incoming emails. That avoids at least some of the temptation to get the newest wonder product, and allows more time to work on the project at hand.

Lonnie,
Great advice. I agree with you that when you have too many projects going on at once, it’s very easy to lose focus on what is the most important priority.
There are times that I try to make a list of what needs to be done, but in the process of making that list, I get lost.
As Mike asked, isn’t there an ‘easy button’ somewhere?
I’d like to find it!
Keep up the good work.

So very true Lonnie. As Doug said above, I too have mentored many people over the years and it is sad to watch them fall by the wayside because of lack of commitment, focus and persistence. These are the hallmarks of any successful businessperson and as I have often said to people.. “It can take 5 years to be an overnight success”.
Half the problem with this industry are the snake oil salesmen who tell you that you can go to bed one night and wake up with a million dollars in your paypal account the next morning. It just doesn’t happen without hard work!
